Isfahan city was one of the first cities in the country that focused on the industrial assets and at the same time, has created transformations during in the time.

In the 1340s, with the establishment of the Isfahan steel plant Company, small cities and scattered villages of Zayanderud[WU1]  plain became ready for accepting the emigrant crowd related to Steel Plant Company and follow by that, the concentrated industries in Isfahan city were marginalized and therefore, Isfahan metropolis was formed.

Isfahan city became seven times wider in the distance of 1335 till 1375 and reached from 23 to 141 square kilometers.

The absolute maximum rate of expansion of Isfahan city has happened in the years of 1345 to 1355 and 478 square kilometers has been added to the city extent.

The effect of demographic transformations of Isfahan metropolis area on the urban planning and management process

Increasing of urban popularity from one side and changes in the demographic composition, especially the age and sex ratio composition of demographic, needs exact urban planning.

Continuity of marginalization, double pressure on urban infrastructures, including passages network and communicational ways of the city, water supply, urban wastewater disposal plan, providing urban proper services to the population is among the urban issues that the management of Isfahan metropolis should not be unaware of it.

One of the basic changes in the demographic structure of Isfahan metropolis is the considerable increase of old population from %6.2 in 1395 to %19.5 in 1430.

In fact, each group has special needs and also has special effects on population that with understanding it, we can provide more accurate planning.

Movement of Isfahan toward old age

“The population of the province is getting old; so that in 1430, more than 30 percent of Isfahan province’s population will be old. Currently, more than 8 percent of the province’s population is old.”

  • the population growth has been declining since the beginning of the century
  • and from 1335, means the first census, this number was always upper than %2/1
  • and in 1345, it reached to more than %3
  • and in 1355, due to some population control policies in 1346, it declined and reached under than %3.

 In order that:

  • society could possess the optimal population growth rate
  • should have the growth rate substitute for the population of %2/1
  • means every father and mother should have two children should that unfortunately
  • this population growth rate is declining in the country and province.

In 1346

despite the adjustment and thought policies:

  • the population growth declined
  • but after that in the Islamic revolution period
  • despite the liberation policies of the crowd
  • population growth rate became doubled and again after that
  • control policies were becoming dominant in government
  • and decreased the birth growth rate in the society

Due to the high birth growth and:

  • in 1385, the golden window of the population with the position of 71 hundredths was formed according to it,
  • 15- 65 percent of Isfahan province’s crowd were young
  • but in 1425 onward, this period will end and the old age position will become dominant.

Unfortunately, in the years 1385 and 1390

the population growth reached to the under of %2 and in 1395, it reached to the under of %1 and the gross rate of birth growth is near to 12 per thousand that this yearly rate growth reached to 45 per thousand till 1365.
