Shahr-e Sukhteh is considered a spectacular place of Zabol and it is located in Sistan va Balouchestan.

This ancient region was the communication highway of the Indian subcontinent and central Asia with civilizations that were on the margin of Persian Gulf.

In fact, this city includes a large part of the ancient civilization of Iran and cultural roots in the east of Iran’s plateau and is considered the center of civilization in ancient times.

Artificial eye:

this city had the most modern civilizations; so that medical and science passed one of its most modern periods there.

Years ago, the body of a woman was found in this city there was a dark sphere in her left eye.

On this sphere, there were circular in the form of a pupil and also, narrow lines of gold wire in the form of capillaries on the sclera.

Researchers believe that the artificial eye belongs to a 30 years old woman.

Brain surgery:

one of the amazing findings in this city is the first surgery on the skull in the world. In this skull, there were traces of a triangle gap on the right side of it. Researchers say that it belongs to a 12 or 13 years old girl.

Cemetery: more than 50 years ago, a big cemetery was found. The graves of it were built with mud brick, but they have some differences in form and size. Some crockery and dishes were found in the graves.

Ruler: a ruler with high accuracy was found in this city that has 10 cm length and half a millimeter accuracy that is considered an amazing figure for more than 4000 years ago.

Backgammon: this is the oldest backgammon in the world; even though it is older than the backgammon that was found in the royal gravestone of “Ur” in Mesopotamia.

The taws of this backgammon is made from the stones of lapis lazuli, onyx, and turquoise.

Animation: the first animation of the world found in this region was the pattern of a goat on a clay cup that moves in 5 directions and feeds from a branch.

Because there was lots of ash around this city, it was concluded that probably a big fire happened there; but these ashes just remained from industrial furnaces. Others believe that this city was fired twice.

A short history of Shahr-e Sukhteh

The antiquity of this city returns to 5000 years ago and its civilization is along with the Jiroft civilization and Bronze Age.

The different periods of urbanization in this ancient city are being investigated in the distance of 1800 to 3200 years BC.

Based on the evidence found, the life of this city is divided into four periods that include city establishment, growth and prosperity, the beginning of the decline, and the period of destruction of the city.

When is the best time to visit the ancient region of Zabol?

The climate of Shahr-e Sukhteh is considered one of the least rainfall climates in Iran.

The low rate of yearly rain and high temperature especially in summer has made this region as one of the hottest regions.

In addition, strong seasonal winds are blown in this region and caused storms in it.

In fact, the temperature of the weather in this city is often warm.

Even in winters, the temperature is not less than 15 degrees centigrade. We suggest that visit this region in fall and late winter.
